The trip starts with a pick-up from your hotel by your expert driver-guide for the day. As you travel north through the beautiful countryside of Lazio and Umbria in a deluxe van, your personal driver will share fascinating stories and historical facts about your destination. Upon arrival in Assisi, the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli will greet you. Inside this massive church, you will find a small chapel, Porziuncula, which Saint Francis himself built and also is the place where he passed away in 1226.

Our tour will continue to visit the Basilica of St. Francis, beautifully decorated by artists among the ranks of Cimabue and Giotto. From here, we will make our way to the lively Piazza del Comune, the town’s main square, built on the site of the ancient Roman forum. Lunch time your driver will suggest a local trattoria to enjoy the rustic cuisine and deep red wine typical for this region, after lunch you can stroll the cobbled streets of this well-preserved medieval town and marvel at masterpieces like the gothic Basilica of Saint Clare. Just outside of Assisi, we will visit the San Damiano convent and church. This simple yet sacred place is where Saint Francis received his calling in 1205 and where Saint Clare died in 1253.

Since it is a private tour so the itinerary is flexible and you can change it as you want, your driver will always give you the right suggestions according to your preference.

Due to strict Italian laws & regulations that protect officially licensed guides, our drivers can only comment and explain the sights from inside the vehicle, and are not allowed to do so once they are outside the vehicle. A Professional licensed guide, where needed, can be hired on request at an extra cost. ( 130 euro for 2 hours guided walking tour to the main sites in Assisi )
