Civitavecchia Shore Excursion: Rome & The Vatican Private Tour

The standard Rome shore excursion tour is designed to cover the city major sites in one day escorted by a private driver guide. In this tour you will be touring the city in comfortable luxury minivan that can take you right next to the monument you’re going to visit, so you’ll definitely going to see much more and walk much less than if you’re taking big group tour in a bus. Also the tour is flexible so that you can change your itinerary as you like with your driver guide who can give the right suggestions according to your needs.

PICK UP TIME It is suggested 8:00 am (of course it is flexible and you can decide when). Back to the port at 5:00 pm (with plenty of time not to miss the ship)

Tour Description

Right in front of the boat exit door your driver will be waiting for you with a sign that your name will be written on it, the drive to Rome would take about 80 min. Once you arrive to the center of Rome, we’ll start our day with an interesting visit to the ancient part of the city. Walk on the original cobblestone streets and learn about the life of the ancient Romans. You will get privileged access to the Colosseum then we would have a great panoramic view for the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and of course circus Maximus where the famous movie ‘’ Ben Hur ‘’ has been shot, then we’ll continue to visit the beautiful Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps, the pantheon and more.

After this first part of our day we would stop for lunch which can either be a nice typical Italian meal in a local restaurant or something quick on the way (if you want to save sometime here and dedicated to see more things on your tour !). Your driver guide would be glad to give suggestions and take you to the right place according to your preferences. After lunch we’ll continue to visit the Vatican State (you don’t need passport to enter), we enter the Vatican museums with privileged access (no wait in line), and we choose the afternoon as it is generally less crowded. The visit to the Vatican museum would cover the most important galleries such as the Gallery of Maps, Gallery of Tapestries, the Raphael Rooms and of course, the Sistine Chapel. Enjoy all the beautiful pieces and let your guide entertain you with delightful stories about the Popes, Cardinals and the artists that worked under them. The tour ends with a wonderful visit to Saint Peter’s Basilica, where you will admire Michelangelo’s Pietà, the Bernini Baldacchino and a great panoramic view of the piazza in front of the basilica, the blessing balcony and the papal residence. After the Vatican we will head back to the ship, where you will arrive to the port around 5:00 PM, ahead of time before your cruise departure.

Since it is a private tour so the itinerary is flexible and you can change it as you wish, your driver will always give you the right suggestions according to your preference.

Due to strict Italian laws & regulations that protect officially licensed guides, our drivers can only comment and explain the sights from inside the vehicle, and are not allowed to do so once they are outside the vehicle. A Professional licensed guide, where needed, can be hired on request at an extra cost. We highly recommend an official private tour guide to take you through the Vatican museum and the Sistine chapel (2.5 hours guided walking tour)

• If you want to request a private guide service at the Vatican, the cost would be extra for 150 euro total. Please note that with a guide and if more than 6 persons in the group, the Vatican requires mandatory ear-phones for 3 euro per person to be paid at the moment of the booking or at the end of the tour to your driver.

Colosseum skip the line tickets 23 euro per person and Vatican skip the line tickets 28 euro per adult and 20 euro for under 18 years old.
